Oliva Living began with a simple idea: a room feels best when the surfaces are continuous, the colours are drawn from nature, and every object has earned its place. We start with the floor and walls, then add furniture and plants slowly.
Our microcement is applied by hand in thin coats, so there are no grout lines to collect dirt and no hard edges to break up the space. The subtle cloudiness you see on this page is the same effect you get in a finished room, where light moves across the surface through the day.
Then we bring in warmth: oak, linen and wool for comfort, and a mature olive tree for a living centrepiece that thrives indoors near a bright window.
Three materials, used honestly
Every project uses the same small palette so the rooms feel related, whether it is a studio apartment or a family house.
Microcement
A thin cement-based coating, 2 to 3 mm thick, applied over existing floors, walls and even bathroom tiles. It is sealed for water resistance and comes in more than 20 natural greys and sand tones.
European oak
Solid, responsibly sourced oak finished with hard-wax oil. It marks and ages gracefully, and can be lightly sanded and re-oiled whenever it needs refreshing.
Olive and linen
Olive trees supply the green, and undyed linen the softness. Together they keep the palette muted, so the room stays restful rather than busy.

Living with an olive tree
Olives are tough, slow-growing and long-lived, which makes them ideal for a home you plan to keep. A few simple habits keep them healthy indoors:
- Give it the brightest spot you have, ideally near a north-facing window in the southern hemisphere or a south-facing one in the north.
- Water deeply, then let the top few centimetres of soil dry out.
- Turn the pot a quarter each month so it grows evenly.
- Move it outside in warm weather if you can.
Care and questions
How do I clean a microcement floor?
Sweep or vacuum, then mop with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid acids such as vinegar and abrasive pads, which can dull the sealer.
Will it crack?
Microcement is flexible for a cement product and is reinforced with fibre mesh at joints. Hairline movement can happen on unstable substrates, so we check the surface before we begin.
Can it go in a bathroom or shower?
Yes. With the right primer and a waterproof sealer it works in wet areas, and there are no grout lines for mould to grow in.
How long does an installation take?
A typical living room takes 4 to 6 days, allowing for drying time between coats and a final curing period before furniture goes back in.
